The Game Tips And More Realism Texture Pack for Minecraft Work In Progress

The Game Tips And More Realism Texture Pack for Minecraft Work In Progress

I have been having a lot of fun lately with the easy-to-get-into, simple-yet-vast gameplay of Minecraft. After getting used to the graphics, which are great in their own pixellated 1980s way, I have been going about messing with the textures just for fun:

Examples of the work-in-progress textures, showing wood/bark, sand, a tree stump, topsoil with grass, soil and bricks, while holding green wool. Click to see image full size.

The game itself is simple in execution but very addicting to many aspects of human nature. I plan to cover these in a First Impressions of the game in the future, with a video and screenshots galore. I realize there are already a generation of kids who will have bad eyesight sooner in life because of this game, but after playing the PCGamer Demo and then purchasing the game, I realize that it will be worth it.
(Note to Marketing Departments: This is how you do an addicting Demo, fully-functional, limited only by Time)

I just wanted to share that I was starting my own Photo-Realistic Texture Pack, learning the cropping, blending, cloning, tiling, color correction, sizing and all the other aspects that go along with importing it into the game and will have it available for Download to anyone that wishes to try it out/use it/play it here in the future.

See you in the games!

The Game Tips And More Blogs Ludo Ludi Game Play 1 3

The Game Tips And More Blogs Ludo Ludi Game Play 1 3

I wanted to start a video series that was Random Gameplay Video Clips that I have collected over time. I started out calling it FLASHBACK, creating a logo for it and everything; but I wanted a way to archive/share them out a little bit faster/easier, rather than Featuring them every time, so I came up with the concept of "Ludo Ludi".

It means "game" and "play" in Esperanto. The idea was to not label the gameplay clips or state what they are, in order to have other people enjoy the "surprise reminiscence" of the games. Viewers could try to guess what they are for fun or just enjoy them as part of a playlist where they didnt know what was coming next. For the most part it would be easy to guess them of course; if you played the game, youll know what game it is and what class I played, etc.etc. But, I still thought it would be entertaining to have a bunch on a playlist of some sort, with no obvious names, having a transitory video (without logos/intros) of something loopable such as static - as though changing the channel on a television - in-between videos. With Youtubes Playlist and Randomize features, this can now be done and one can sit and reminisce on games of yesteryear with my video clips showing snippets of gaming moments recorded from a wide variety of games! Everyone with ADD/ADHD can just click the Next button on the playlist to skip to the next one if the current one isnt holding their interest! Everyone is a winner! With this in mind then, I now present one long paragraph and the first three installments of :

The PS4 Firmware Poops Itself Persona Q Impressions and More!

The PS4 Firmware Poops Itself Persona Q Impressions and More!

*

Games: Not much to report tonight I had planned on putting in some time with all of the things Im juggling for review right now, but since Sony updated their firmware last week, Ive been having serious problems with the PS4 and I dont dare turn it on.

The only thing NOT on this poster? Working PS4 firmware.
It started when I put my console into sleep mode for the first time in a while. I usually turn it all the way off, but I had a big download and I wanted to get it done overnight. When I got up, I noticed that it didnt turn off automatically, and after some investigation, discovered that the unit would not turn off no matter what. My only choice was to unplug it and I thought that was the extent of the problem, but I had another surprise coming

Later that day I was making good progress in Skylanders: Trap Team (which is fantastic, by the way) when out of the blue, my data randomly corrupted and I lost my entire save. Since Im working on the review for that game, that was more than a bit upsetting, but its a great game and quite fun to play with the family, so we chalked it up to a random unlucky occurrence and started a new file, only to have that one corrupt five or ten minutes after starting.

Any working firmware in there?

Ive never heard of anyone having data stability problems with Skylanders, so after some more investigation, everything pointed towards the firmware update. I soon started hearing stories of other people who were having similar data corruption, games freezing, or other technical problems.

Dont drop me, Ive got the firmware in my pocket!

Up until this point, I would say that Sony has been doing just about everything right with the PS4, but this is an incredibly serious issue. I havent heard any official announcements regarding this, and I have no idea when the fix is coming. Theres no way Im going to turn the console back on to play any of my other review games because I cant afford to have more save files corrupt,  so all of my productivity is pretty much blown at the moment Chariot, Trap Team and Lords of the Fallen were what I was working on, and I had hoped to have some updates on those for you here at Coffeecola, but cest la vie

On the plus side, this unfortunate clusterfuck has freed up quite a bit of time for Persona Q: Shadows of the Labyrinth on 3DS. Im playing review code still under embargo at the moment, but Im guessing that sharing some general impressions are okay and my general impressions are that this game is completely awesome.

So awesome!!

The way the systems of Persona and Etrian Odyssey have been combined is incredibly brilliant, and the game feels quite true to both series without either one getting the shaft. The art is great, the story bits have been great, the music is great, and it shows polish in every aspect. As I said, these are brief impressions and this is not at all a review, but Ive been nothing but impressed with this game so far.

If you have any interest in Persona, Etrian, or just in good games, you would do yourself a big favor by pre-ordering this one ASAP If the rest of the game is as good as what Ive seen so far, this is going to be a very easy review to write.

In mobile news, Marvel Puzzle Quest is just getting better and better. The developers have just made a change to the game where every Alliance can now have up to 20 members for no additional charge, and the most recent character addition to the game, Blade, is fantastic.

I dont have mine maxed out yet, but hes already more than pulling his weight in the current PVP, and Im guessing that when he is at the peak of his powers, hes going to be a real monster. Good, good stuff.

Play this!

Thats it for now, I suppose. Hopefully Sony will get on top of this firmware situation and turn things around soon Oh, and in the PR section below is some info for the PC version of Valkyria Chronicles, which is a faaaaaaaantastic game. If you missed it on PS3, you know what to do.

The next wave of malware might kill more than just your PC

The next wave of malware might kill more than just your PC

Ransomware is the biggest threat that has ever hit customers says Bogdan Botezatu, senior threat analyst at Bitdefender, and worse is coming according to him.
"It is ironic that encryption, a technology designed to keep us safe, is being used against the customer," he said. Encryption-based ransomware is essentially someone transforming your files into a mish-mash of bytes that need a key to be translated.
And it is only the perpetrator that can provide you with that key for a fee. "Interestingly, most of the time they are giving the encryption key to the victim if they pay," Bogdan added, "except when they go to jail first."

Mobile hostages

And dont think that ransomware is limited to desktops only. Yes, it is very prevalent in that segment because customers tend to take security very lightly (think Windows XP and Internet Explorer 6) but the threat is very rapidly coming to mobile.
Only one in fifty smartphones on the market have antivirus protection, and devices older than two years are unlikely to get any sort of updates or patches especially as Google, smartphone makers and network carriers are all part of the equation.
What can be done to mitigate this threat? Well, installing an antivirus program on your devices any sort of antivirus would help. Most of them are free, either on mobile or desktop.
Keeping it up to date and upgrading your operating system would be a good thing, too. Backups are also a very good idea. With cloud-based storage now available almost by default on most recent devices, ransomware is yet another powerful incentive to get the end user backing up.
"Backup as often as possible as ransomware can hit anytime even if youre not doing anything wrong," our interlocutor warned. "Because ransomware developers are very apt at using zero-day exploits, you dont even need to click to get the payload."

Polymorphism problems

Sometimes just browsing a website is enough to be infected. Add to that the fact that ransomware has resurrected an old technique called polymorphism and one starts to grasp the challenges faced by security experts on a daily basis.
"Each piece of ransomware has its own unique ID, every single one of them is different from the other one. The more you rely on polymorphism, the more you can evade traditional antivirus solutions."
He then quoted a worrying figure: 2,000 is the number of ransomware files uploaded in one day by hackers to VirusTotal, a free service that checks whether a file is a virus or not by matching it against a malware database from more than 40 antivirus solutions.
None of these files were in the database, which is why relying on behaviour analysis rather than just analysing a file is where the industry is heading.
The boom in ransomware can be attributed, Bogdan said, to the more mature encryption technologies as well as the wide availability of DIY kits that allow you to, well, build your own ransomware factory and start taking peoples data hostage.
He also cited the death of three people, all suicides that are directly linked to ransomware. All three chose to end their lives rather than giving in to ransomware criminals.

IoT dangers

But the worst is yet to come. The rise of the Internet of Things could provide ransomware developers with a much bigger and potentially lucrative "audience".
Want to continue using that pacemaker of yours? Please pay in Bitcoins only. How about saving your house from an impending blaze? That would be a few more Bitcoins.
"Theres no cure to ransomware and it could change the face of cybercrime forever," Bogdan pointed out as we ended the interview.
