One when another vulnerability in golem has raised numerous questions about its safety. golem users square measure currently, thinking is it safe to use or not?

Researchers from Trend small, a security firm, have uncovered one more golem mediaserver vulnerability in its versions a pair of.3 to 5.1.1, that they need same, may permit attackers to run their code with an equivalent permissions that the mediaserver program already has as a part of its traditional routines.
However, Google has patched the vulnerability via the golem Open supply Project (AOSP).

According to the researchers, the vulnerability comes with the AudioEffect, a element of the mediaserver program. It uses associate unrestrained variable that comes from the consumer, that is sometimes associate app. so as to attack, the assaulter should convert the victim to put in associate app that doesnt need any needed permissions, giving them a false sense of security.

Since the mediaserver element deals with plenty of media-related tasks as well as taking footage, reading MP4 files, and recording videos, the privacy of the victim is also in danger. Devices with custom-made  versions of golem however with no modification created to the mediaserver element also are affected, they same.

The researchers have steered that so as to dam the threat, the golem users will transfer Trend small Mobile Security (TMMS), which may discover threats making an attempt to use this vulnerability and running any of the eventualities conferred. they will conjointly boot their device mistreatment safe mode to uninstall the malicious app.

We conjointly suggest that device makers patch their devices often to stop their users from littered with attacks that use this vulnerability, they explained.

 its same that the new flaw is kind of like those 3 alternative major vulnerabilities in Androids mediaserver element that detected recently. CVE-2015-3823 may permit attackers to lure phones in endless reboots and ANDROID-21296336 might render devices silent. Lastly, CVE-2015-3824 dubbed Stagefright may be accustomed install malware through a multimedia system message

One after another vulnerability in Android has raised various questions about its safety. Android users are now, thinking is it safe to use or not?
Researchers from Trend Micro, a security firm, have uncovered yet another Android mediaserver vulnerability in its versions 2.3 to 5.1.1, which they have said, could allow attackers to run their code with the same permissions that the mediaserver program already has as part of its normal routines.
However, Google has patched the vulnerability via the Android Open Source Project (AOSP).
According to the researchers, the vulnerability comes with the AudioEffect, a component of the mediaserver program. It uses an unchecked variable which comes from the client, which is usually an app. In order to attack, the attacker must convince the victim to install an app that doesnt require any required permissions, giving them a false sense of security.
Since the mediaserver component deals with a lot of media-related tasks including taking pictures, reading MP4 files, and recording videos, the privacy of the victim may be at risk. Devices with customized versions of Android but with no modification made to the mediaserver component are also affected, they said.
The researchers have suggested that in order to block the threat, the Android users can download Trend Micro Mobile Security (TMMS), which can detect threats trying to use this vulnerability and running any of the scenarios presented. They can also reboot their device using safe mode to uninstall the malicious app.
We also recommend that device manufacturers patch their devices regularly to prevent their users from suffering from attacks that use this vulnerability, they explained.
 It is said that the new flaw is quite similar to those three other major vulnerabilities in Androids mediaserver component that detected recently. CVE-2015-3823 could allow attackers to trap phones in endless reboots and ANDROID-21296336 may render devices silent. Lastly, CVE-2015-3824 dubbed Stagefright can be used to install malware through a multimedia message

the URL to be able to download Skype onto your Verizon BlackBerry Bold 9650

Because even though your BlackBerry 9650 is pictured on the Verizon/Skype website and the site says its compatible, when you try to download through normal channels, Verizon and Skype will say your phone isnt compatible but it is ... sort of ... at least on my phone with BlackBerry 6.0 it does work but not very well. Takes FOREVER to connect a call. Only time I use it is when I have to take a Skype call on my mobile.

The Final Answer For What To Do To Prevent Piracy

The Final Answer For What To Do To Prevent Piracy

(For some reason, Blogger deleted this post. I have recreated it. Sorry for any comments that were lost.)

This article is my decisive statement on how developers should deal with pirates. It includes humorous anecdotes about how dumb I have been in the past. And, believe me, Ive been pretty dumb.

I am very confident about what I have to say on the subject. I have used these guidelines for protecting our newest game, Avadon: The Black Fortress. So Im not just putting my money where my mouth is, Im putting all my money. If Im wrong, my kids dont eat. So I hope Im right.

One of the most common questions fledgling developers ask me is how they should protect their games from pirates. My answer is, generally, "The minimum amount you can get away with." That is because I have learned never to forget the following guideline ...

Whenever you find yourself starting a sentence with, "I dont want people to pirate my game, so I am going to ..." you are very close to making a big mistake.

I really, truly believe this rule. Here are two examples of times when I have forgotten it, and the grim consequences.

Trying To Protect My Hint Books

From the very beginning, I have sold hint books for my games. People like them, and they are easy money. When I started, in 1994, there was no convenient format like pdf for online file delivery, so I had to print and mail actual books. This cost lots of money and boxes of hint books took up tons of space in my house.

Then pdf files happened and people started to request that I send the book in electronic form instead of making them wait a week for the post office to do whatever it does. I refused  this reasonable request for two reasons. First, I was afraid people would buy the pdf version and send it to their friends. Second, I didnt know how to create a download link for the file that couldnt then be e-mailed around to everyone in the world. So I kept spending money and precious storage space for the booklets, inconveniencing my paying customers as I did so.

Finally, three years ago, I got fed up with it. I made hint books available as downloadable pdf files. (People who want a printed version can get one for an extra two bucks, but they almost never do.)

But how did I secure the download link so it couldnt be shared? Heres the brilliant part. Ready? I just put it in with all of our other files. Anyone can download it. Anyone who knows how to use ftp can find it. When people order the hint book, I send them the download link, but they could have found the file for themselves if they looked around.

But heres the thing. Anyone who wants to pirate pretty much any PC game can do so easily. That means all of my orders are from honest, nice people. So why waste our time figuring out how to hide the hint book from them? They will pay for it because they know selling things is how I stay in business and make more games for them!

Heres the punch line. Want to know how switching to undefended pdf files affected sales of hint books? It didnt. The sales rate was practically unchanged. Know what that means? All those years humping around boxes of hint books, all those thousands of dollars sent to printers, all those slaughtered trees, all wasted. All because I was scared of people pirating my lousy hint book.

But there is a more gruesome example of my foolishness.

The Worst Registration System Ever Devised By the Hand of Man

In 1994, electronic distribution of demos was very much in its infancy. My plan was to release a demo with a small fraction of the game. Then, when the correct key was entered into the game, it would unlock and everything would be playable. A sound plan. The problem was the implementation.

At first, I thought Id just generate a key when someone ordered and send it to them. But then I thought, hey, I dont want people to pirate my  game. If I just send them a key, they can make it public or send it to all their friends. So here is my brilliant idea. I will ... will ...

God. It hurts to even think about it.

Heres what I did. When you ran the game, it generated a random code, a 4 or 5 digit number. When you ordered, you had to provide that number. I would use it to generate a key specific to your copy of the game. Id send you that key, youd enter it, and the whole game would be unlocked.

So what does this mean? First, when you tried to order a game, you had to have this number with you. Did you realize you needed it? Probably not. So youd be at our online store trying to give us money, only to have to leave to dig up some stupid number. Want a tip for running an online business? When a customer is at your web page, credit card out and in hand, do not give them a reason to leave!

The system was confusing, and this wasnt helped by the fact that we were the only ones ever to use it. Oh, if only we could have back the countless hours spent explaining the system to confused parents. Countless more hours making new registration keys for people who switched computers or had to reinstall their OS. The weird system made us look unprofessional at best, deranged at worst. And, as a special bonus, it did exactly zero to stop people from pirating our game. Name a way to crack our registration system, and people did it a hundred times.

We stuck by this system for fifteen years. Might as well have just made a big pile of money and set it on fire. At least we would have gotten the warmth.

A year ago, I finally got fed up. New system. When you order our newest game, Avadon: The Black Fortress, we send you a serial code. Enter it, and youre up and running. Buy the game for the Mac and want to play it on Windows too? Enter the same key. Want to register your copy again ten years from now? Use the same key.

And the result of switching to a slightly less secure, infinitely easier to use system? Sales of Avadon are the highest of any game weve put out in years.

Just Do the Minimum

You need some way to force people to pay. Not because they are evil or dishonest, but because they procrastinate. Registration is a pain. Theyd rather be spending their time playing your game! If you dont do anything at all to make them pay, theyll just forget.

But tread lightly. Once you have any barrier in place at all, youll get your payment from all the honest people, the people who know that, if nobody pays, you wont make more awesome games for them. Anything beyond that will inconvenience your paying customers and do little to nothing to prevent piracy.

It took a long time for me to learn this. Too long. And, whenever I start to forget, I look at the monolith of boxes of old hint books gathering dust in my garage. If youre an Indie developer, be nice to people. In the end, the ability to be nice is one of the best weapons you have.

Shut out the world around you.

Those moments when you are immersed in quietness are all too rare in todays world.

Noise pollution is a companion to modern life, with traffic, ringtones and other peoples conversations providing the soundtrack to our daily routines.

A record by the Royal British Legion featuring only silence is hoping to beat Take That to the number one spot this week.

It reflects the immense power that - for many people - silence can wield, if only we stopped to listen.

    The Perfect Storm How a Combination of Random Events can lead to Disaster

    The Perfect Storm How a Combination of Random Events can lead to Disaster

    No, this post isnt about that Wolfgang Peterson & George Clooney movie but it does borrow from the concept in a business sense.

    This week we skirted close to disaster but the rest of the business was completely oblivious to the danger.

    I wasnt worried, it was all under control but my boss said to me later, "we nearly had the perfect storm today". I thought about his words and realised that he was right.

    I was wondering just how many times we, and other businesses nearly have the perfect storm and dont even realise.

    What is a Perfect Storm?
    In the book and movie of "The Perfect Storm", the storm wasnt a cyclone or any kind of normal severe storm event. It was just a normal storm in which several other conditions were perfect. Its simply the combination of several unlikely events which results in disaster.

    Our Experience
    Factor 1: Backup
    This week weve struggled a bit with backup. We had a faulty tape which meant that we missed out on our backup job for one night. I replaced the tape for the next night and tried to run the backup again. It failed again - this time because the previous nights tape had left a bit of gunk in the drive. I cleaned the drive but although the system was ready for backup, we now had two days worth of "unsaved work".

    Factor 2: Backup ISP and Server
    Like many critial businesses, we have offsite redundancy. In our case, we have an offsite domino server which is part of our cluster. Our offsite provider had told us a little while ago that they needed to switch ISPs and re-run our infrastructure. We were told a month ago that there was no pressing urgency. Of course last week, on the night of our last successful backup, we were told that it was starting to become urgent.

    You can imagine our surprise when we came into work on Thursday to find ourselves disconnected. Our main systems worked, the internet worked, everything was Ok. Its just that our redundant server was no longer accessible.

    Factor 3: Board Day
    I work at one of those lucky companies who dont have board members in attendance every day. In fact theyre usually only around on monthly basis. Guess what.... the day of the storm was a board day.

    A Lucky Escape
    We were careful, we took precautions. Earlier in the week wed had some work done on our main production databases but on that day, they were out of bounds.

    Like I mentioned earlier, nothing happened. The production servers all stayed up, we eventually got our offsite server back and we got a backup that night. All was well but you have to think...

    If anything had gone wrong on the day, we had no backup and no offsite server. We were hosting one of the most critical meetings of the year and the most important people in our company were all onsite watching.

    The question is; would you recognize the perfect storm if it started forming near your company?

    The Flash S02E09 Running To Stand Still

    The Flash S02E09 Running To Stand Still

    In A Nutshell

    After the OTT comic book like feast from the crossover episode last time around, were back to pure Flash story this week. Phew. Things kick off with Zoom chasing down Wells in Star Labs, capturing him and wishing him a Merry Christmas. Is this a flashback? Dream? Trick? Turns out it did actually happen, which is surprisingly that no alarm went off when all this happened. Zoom is giving Wells an ultimatum, and keeps turning up during the episode for an answer, which at the every end Wells gives.

    Before all that, we have the sub-plot beneath a Christmas theme episode, with Joes Exs Son that he never knew about. Iris caves in under the pressures, confides in Barry and they both confront Joe to spill the beans. Were spared seeing his boring wife, but Joe does later say it all went tremendously well having a conversation with her about his son. thats surprising somewhat, but at least we dont have too much screen-time of this.

    The main story this week is that Weather Wizard Martin breaks out Snart and Trickster from jail in order to get the three of them to take out Flash. Snart lets Barry know whats going on, before then playing no further part in the episode. Guess this is lining up the other spin-off show ... anyhow, Patty gets all worked up, as its Martin that shot her dad many years ago. Shes off on a crusade it seems of revenge, which no matter how many pet talks she has, and angry expressions she shows, we all know how this is going to go down, right? Sure enough, after the Trickster cleverly and a little amusingly plants bombs into presents that he gives out to kids as Santa, he and Martin think they have Flash at their mercy. After taking quite a pounding from Martin, it looks like its mince pie time for Barry, but alas, Wells and cue use some techno-babble science to draw all the presents together into a vortex. At least I think thats what they did. Who knows. It worked anyway. Primed with this knowledge, Flash defeats Martin and Trickster in seconds. Thats normally the end of it, but Patty shows up and snares Flash with some device to stop him moving whilst she goes to take revenge on Martin. Of course Barry talks her down. No one here believed shed do it anyway. Quite how Barry couldnt have done something to blow her away from doing anything I dont know. And where did that device come from anyway?

    Things all end up with the Christmas theme of course, with everyone meeting at Joes place for smiles and presents etc. Wally, Joes unknown son, and is invited in rather awkwardly as youd expect but lovingly.

    The ending is between Zoom and Wells, with Wells reluctantly agreeing to help Zoom steal Flashs speed. Hes already worked out what Zoom is up to, in that he wants Barrys speed. Is Zoom really Wells once again, trying to get back to the future?

    What I liked

    Snart; hes a likeable rouge isnt he?

    Trickster; fiendishly fun villain.

    Weather Wizard; actually carried some threat about this time around.

    Zoom/Wells; an alliance is struck. This isnt the same Wells as in our Earth, but hes going to be acting much like his former version to help Zoom. Uncanny.

    Jay/Caitlin; cute romance. Cant help but smile at those two.

    What I didnt Like

    Gideon; just saying.

    Wheres Wally; Joes unknown son turns up at end. We dont get to see much of the dialogue between Joe and his Ex, thankfully. Its all emotional stuff that we see, which is good, but Im wondering where this storyline is actually taking us.

    Theres little actual action once again between Barry and his foes.

    Huh?

    I dont know where Patty got that device from, but there were still a 101 things Barry could have done to stop Patty other than talking.

    "Give me all your presents" ... best line in episode.

    The Trickster is crazy but played very well. Him wearing the Santa suit was classic plot telling.

    And Finally

    A Christmas episode where the season of goodwill actually took more of a back-seat than normal for these themed episodes. As much as I like the actor, Weather Wizard doesnt usually carried much weight in terms of presence, but this time around he was better. Trickster is just class, and Snart is just too likeable to dislike. The sub-plots were fillers for the main plot of course, but they didnt diminish our concentration away. They kept up their end of the storyline quite well. Perhaps not enough mystery and intrigue created as normal this season by events, but nevertheless a solid and enjoyable episode.

    Rating: 6/10 (DECENT)

    The love affair with freenx is over time to make the marriage work

    It seems that not much survives contact with students!

    Basically if the freenx session isnt correctly terminated or established then desktop processes and a nx process are left running to the server which will prevent them logging in again.

    However I am not the first person to notice this:

    PSI Labs who use the technology have developed a RPM of scripts to manage this properly called nxcleanup. A user session has the standard number of processes for the desktop however there is an associated nx process that the student doesnt own. So the script nxclean would need to be run as root.

    How do I enable a student to run a script as root that wipes out processes of an arbitary user?

    Simple: Use a setuid "shim"! Write a trivial C program that takes no inputs (or has very, very thorough sanity checking!) which identifies the current user using posix calls and then execs the script after passing it the current username. Nifty eh? This is a standard way of making scripts run safely as root. Ill post it as soon as I am done.

    The Road to Atlanta

    The Road to Atlanta

    Emory University School of Medicine, Psychology Building.
    I made it a habit of writing about how I ended up living in different cities. However, due to relatively busier schedule, I could not write about my road to Atlanta, despite reaching here on the 10th of March, 2016, to work in Emory University School of Medicine. An internship is mandatory for my PhD, and I am happy that I joined Emory for this. The past 3 months were full of travels, due to various conferences. Since I am still mostly Europe/Portugal-based, this year, so far I have had 4 intercontinental travels. In fact, I am typing this blog post, while waiting for my flight to Lisboa, at the Atlanta airport. I will be in Lisboa and Costa da Caparica for one-week to attend EMJD-DC Summer Event.

    I have lived in Portugal for almost 4 years, and it has become a second home to me. Despite not knowing the language well, still the familiarity and sense of home when I return there. It has been almost 3 months away. However, I should also mention that we are enjoying Atlanta even more - specially the current weather, my regular daily work-and-life schedule, and the food. :)

    Sailfish OS project was started by a group of ex-Nokia employees aimed at continuing the development of MeeGo OS. Originally the MeeGo was the result of the merger of Nokias Maemo and Intels Moblin projects, both Linux systems. But when Nokia decided to ditch MeeGo in favor of proprietary Windows Phone, a bunch of disgruntled Nokia employees who included Sami Pienimki, Jussi Hurmola, Marc Dillon and Stefano Mosconi, formed Jolla, the company behind open source Sailfish OS, in October 2011. And their hard work is finally paying off. The first ever Sailfish OS powered smartphone is arriving at the end of this month.

    Smartphone users in Finland will soon have one more OS to choose from. The Sailfish OS powered Jolla smartphone will arrive in the Finland market at the end of this month with a price tag of 399 euros, roughly $540.

    Being their first ever smartphone venture, the phones specs doesnt look as good as it should be. Jolla smartphone is powered by a dual-core 1.4 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, and has 1 GB of RAM, 16 GB of storage, a 4.5-inch 960540 qHD display, a 2 megapixel front-facing camera, and an 8 megapixel rear camera with LED flash and auto-focus capabilities. Quite underwhelming specs when you consider the price. We hope that they would come up with better specd devices at much lower prices to truly compete with the giants like Samsung, LG, Apple, and Sony in the international market.

    And like Blackberry OS, Jolla has some very nascent support for Android apps. Sailfish OS can run Android apps directly via a compatibility layer. But their real USP is a feature called "Other Half". It is an interchangeable backplate which can be used to transfer data or control the device via NFC. Different backplates can be configured to automatically change the phones color theme and wallpaper upon attaching, making it possible, for example, for studios or artists to sell backplates that contain their music as well as album art and color schemes.

    Jolla smartphone would be more like a proof-of-concept for the company and they will closely monitoring the feedback they get for the device. The Jolla smartphone will be available from the Finnish carrier DNA for a price tag of 399 euros from November 27, 2013. There seems to be no immediate plans for international availability though.

    The future of computing as I would like to see it

    The future of computing as I would like to see it

    This diagram represents how I see the future of computing.

    First we have an online service where we store our data. This would hold our e-mail, pictures, documents, videos, music, etc.

    We access our data through web applications. Take Google Docs for example. Currently Google hosts both the application and the data. I would like to see that come to an end. In my model I would log into my Google Docs and set up an account. I would give Google Docs the URL of my web storage server and then Google Docs would give me a unique private key. I would simply highlight this key and copy it into my computers memory. I would then log into my web storage site and select that I want to share my document data. I would paste the private key provided by Google Docs into my storage interface and receive a unique private key from the storage server. I would provide this unique private key back to Google as authorization.

    Behind the scenes Google would contact the web storage server, tell them whos account it wants to access, give it both its own private key that is unique to my Google Docs account, and provide the private key that is unique to the storage server. With both of these keys the web storage server can be confident that it is talking to the correct server that I have authorized to access my documents.

    With the trust between the two servers setup I could use Google Docs to modify my documents.

    I could repeat this process for different online applications. Files would be saved with open standards so that I can be guaranteed that any application on the web can reliably read and write to them.

    I could even use two providers for the same service. I could switch back and forth between using Googles picasaweb and Flickr, for example. There is no reason why only one application would need to be tied to a file type.

    If down the road Microsoft comes out with a better online application for modifying documents I could go in to my storage service and deny Google access and go through the process of allowing Microsoft. At any point I could ditch Microsoft and go with another service provider.

    Likewise, if I want to change my storage provider I should be able to import all my data to a local file and then upload it to a new provider.

    Both the web applications and the data should always be synched up to our primary computers. This way if we dont have an internet connection we can still use the application to modify our data, and the next time the computer comes online it will all synch back up. Googles Gears application already allows for application and data synchronization for offline use, and thats exactly how I envision this working.

    The benefits to this are:
    1. No vendor lock-in.
      We are free to change providers at any time. It is not like currently where one must choose Microsoft Office because it is the only application suite that can reliably open and close the .doc format which is the document format.
    2. Access to data from anywhere with an Internet connection.
      You no longer have to carry around a thumb drive or go through any such hassle. Your data is available from almost anywhere.
    3. Enhanced data persistence
      Computer crashes will no longer cause you to lose any of your work.
    4. Enhanced data security.
      A lot is made of the security problems of data existing on the cloud. I believe that you are better served with your data in the hands of a team of professionals than in yours. The average PC user is simply the largest security hole that exists today. As long as the average user is in charge of their data, the average users data is vulnerable. Google is more likely to keep your data secure than you are.
    5. OS independence.
      Whether you are using Windows, Mac, Linux, your cell phone, game console or any other device, all you need is an Internet connection and a browser to get to your content.
    6. Cheaper computers.
      Because most of the hard work is being done by the application server, your computer no longer needs a lot of ram and processing to run your applications. You just need enough resources to run your web browser.
    This is cloud computing at its best and I believe that we will be seeing technology continue to move in this direction over the coming years. The development of Googles Chrome OS will be the first of many major steps towards this model.

    The first bug on Oracle Database 12c how to create a PDB by cloning a remote existing pluggable database

    The first bug on Oracle Database 12c how to create a PDB by cloning a remote existing pluggable database

    In this post I want to describe how to create a PDB by cloning a remote existing pluggable database: at the end of this process you should have a new PDB (in my case PDB103) contained in a target CDB (CDB001) cloned from a source PDB (PDB003) contained in a remote different CDB (CDBTEST).
    In my case both source and target databases are located on the same machine.

    When I took part at the presentation of the new Oracle Database 12c here in Rome I took some pictures, but I was not ready with my phone when an interesting slide was presented.

    While testing the scenario of today I suddenly remembered about that missing pictures: luckily few days later I received from Oracle also the pdf of the event so Im now able to show you the following screenshot:

    In 2006 I tested the beta release of Oracle Database 11gR1 because at that time my company needed to test new features for its products.
    As you can read from the screenshot many test cases were conducted by Oracle and by beta testers, but a bug is always behind the corner when you consider a complex software solution as the Oracle Database and today Im not able to close my thread with the usual "Thats all" comment.

    Anyway lets start describing the content of my current containers. My machine has two container databases named CDB001 and CBTEST.
    [oracle@vsi08devpom ~]$ ps -ef|grep smon
    oracle 4081 1 0 Jul15 ? 00:01:23 ora_smon_CDB001
    oracle 16455 1 0 Jul17 ? 00:01:25 ora_smon_CDBTEST
    oracle 26501 26466 0 14:08 pts/1 00:00:00 grep smon
    On the target database CDB001 there is only one pluggable database (PDB101)
    [oracle@vsi08devpom ~]$ env|grep SID
    ORACLE_SID=CDB001
    [oracle@vsi08devpom ~]$ sqlplus / as sysdba

    SQL@CDB001> select name, open_mode from V$PDBS;

    NAME OPEN_MODE
    ------------------------------ ----------
    PDB$SEED READ ONLY
    PDB0101 READ WRITE
    On the source database CDBTEST there are four pluggable databases (PDBTEST1, PDBTEST2, PDBTEST3 and PDB003)
    [oracle@vsi08devpom ~]$ env|grep SID
    ORACLE_SID=CDBTEST

    SQL@CDBTEST> select NAME, OPEN_MODE FROM V$PDBS;

    NAME OPEN_MODE
    ------------------------------ ----------
    PDB$SEED READ ONLY
    PDBTEST1 READ WRITE
    PDBTEST2 READ WRITE
    PDBTEST3 READ WRITE
    PDB003 READ WRITE
    The PDB003 pluggable database contains few rows into MARCOV.T1 table:
    SQL@CDBTEST> alter session set container=PDB003;

    Session altered.

    SQL@CDBTEST> select count(*) from marcov.T1;

    COUNT(*)
    ----------
    100
    Im going to create a database link into the CDB001 container database connecting to CDBTEST using the ezconnect method.
    SQL@CDB001> create database link CDBTEST_AT_VSI08DEVPOM connect to SYSTEM identified by oracle using vsi08devpom.mydomain.it:1521/CDBTEST;

    Database link created.
    Im able to successfully test the new database link.
    SQL@CDB001> select * from cdb_pdbs;

    Under the directory of the CDB001 container there are the following files and directories:
    [oracle@vsi08devpom CDB001]$ pwd

    As usual to clone the remote pluggable database it must be in READ ONLY mode. The current open mode of PDB003 pluggable database is READ WRITE.
    SQL@CDBTEST> select pdb_name, status from CDB_PDBS;

    PDB_NAME STATUS
    ---------- -------------
    PDB$SEED NORMAL
    PDBTEST1 NORMAL
    PDBTEST2 NORMAL

    SQL@CDBTEST> select name, open_mode from V$PDBS;

    NAME OPEN_MODE
    ------------------------------ ----------
    PDB$SEED READ ONLY
    PDBTEST1 READ WRITE
    PDBTEST2 READ WRITE
    PDBTEST3 READ WRITE
    PDB003 READ WRITE
    I need to close and open it in READ ONLY mode.
    SQL@CDBTEST> alter pluggable database PDB003 close immediate;

    Pluggable database altered.

    SQL@CDBTEST> alter pluggable database PDB003 open read only;

    Pluggable database altered.
    From the target container database I can now issue the following command to clone the pluggable database PDB003 contained in the remote database container CDBTEST.
    SQL@CDB001> create pluggable database PDB103 from PDB003@CDBTEST_AT_VSI08DEVPOM file_name_convert=(/opt/app/oracle/oradata/CDBTEST/PDB003,/opt/app/oracle/oradata/CDB001/PDB103);
    create pluggable database PDB103 from PDB003@CDBTEST_AT_VSI08DEVPOM file_name_convert=(/opt/app/oracle/oradata/CDBTEST/PDB003,/opt/app/oracle/oradata/CDB001/PDB103);
    *
    ERROR at line 1:
    ORA-17628: Oracle error 19505 returned by remote Oracle server
    ORA-19505: failed to identify file ""
    On the alert log the following error is logged:
    ORA-17628 signalled during: create pluggable database PDB103 from PDB003@CDBTEST_AT_VSI08DEVPOM file_name_convert=(/opt/app/oracle/oradata/CDBTEST/PDB003,/opt/app/oracle/oradata/CDB001/PDB103)...
    Because the database link can connect to either the root of the remote container database or directly to the remote pluggable database, I decided, after several failed attempts, to create another database link referencing the remote pluggable database:
    SQL@CDB001> create database link PDB003_AT_CDBTEST connect to SYSTEM identified by oracle using vsi08devpom.recupitalia.it:1521/pdb003;

    Database link created.

    SQL@CDB001> select * from cdb_pdbs@PDB003_AT_CDBTEST;

    no rows selected
    But even with the different database link the statement continues to fail:
    SQL@CDB001> create pluggable database PDB103 from PDB003@PDB003_AT_CDBTEST file_name_convert=(/opt/app/oracle/oradata/CDBTEST/PDB003,/opt/app/oracle/oradata/CDB001/PDB103);
    create pluggable database PDB103 from PDB003@PDB003_AT_CDBTEST file_name_convert=(/opt/app/oracle/oradata/CDBTEST/PDB003,/opt/app/oracle/oradata/CDB001/PDB103)
    *
    ERROR at line 1:
    ORA-17628: Oracle error 19505 returned by remote Oracle server
    ORA-19505: failed to identify file ""
    Lets try using a different method to connect the two database containers and create another database link using the following CDBTEST tns entry:
    CDBTEST =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = vsi08devpom.mydomain.it)(PORT = 1521))
    (CONNECT_DATA =
    (SERVER = DEDICATED)
    (SERVICE_NAME = CDBTEST)
    )
    )
    Creation and testing of the database link using the CDBTEST tns entry.
    SQL@CDB001> create database link CDBTEST_TNS_AT_VSI08DEVPOM connect to SYSTEM identified by oracle using CDBTEST;

    Database link created.

    SQL@CDB001> select * from cdb_pdbs@CDBTEST_TNS_AT_VSI08DEVPOM;

    The statement using the CDBTEST_TNS_AT_VSI08DEVPOM database link still continues to fail:
    SQL@CDB001> create pluggable database PDB103 from PDB003@CDBTEST_TNS_AT_VSI08DEVPOM file_name_convert=(/opt/app/oracle/oradata/CDBTEST/PDB003,/opt/app/oracle/oradata/CDB001/PDB103);

    Lets create the latest database link connected to the following tns entry:
    PDB003_CDBTEST =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = vsi08devpom.mydomain.it)(PORT = 1521))
    (CONNECT_DATA =
    (SERVER = DEDICATED)
    (SERVICE_NAME = pdb003)
    )
    )
    Creation and testing of the database link using the PDB003_CDBTEST tns entry.
    SQL@CDB001> create database link PDB003_TNS_AT_VSI08DEVPOM connect to SYSTEM identified by oracle using PDB003_CDBTEST;

    Database link created.

    SQL@CDB001> select * from cdb_pdbs@PDB003_TNS_AT_VSI08DEVPOM;

    no rows selected
    The statement continues to fail even using the latest available database link: PDB003_TNS_AT_VSI08DEVPOM
    SQL@CDB001> create pluggable database PDB103 from PDB003@PDB003_TNS_AT_VSI08DEVPOM file_name_convert=(/opt/app/oracle/oradata/CDBTEST/PDB003,/opt/app/oracle/oradata/CDB001/PDB103);
    create pluggable database PDB103 from PDB003@PDB003_TNS_AT_VSI08DEVPOM file_name_convert=(/opt/app/oracle/oradata/CDBTEST/PDB003,/opt/app/oracle/oradata/CDB001/PDB103)
    *
    ERROR at line 1:
    ORA-17628: Oracle error 19505 returned by remote Oracle server
    ORA-19505: failed to identify file ""
    The available database links created and used are the following:
    SQL@CDB001> select DB_LINK, HOST, OWNER from dba_db_links;

    DB_LINK HOST OWNER
    ------------------------------ --------------------------------------------- -----
    CDBTEST_AT_VSI08DEVPOM vsi08devpom.mydomain.it:1521/CDBTEST SYS
    PDB003_AT_CDBTEST vsi08devpom.mydomain.it:1521/pdb003 SYS
    CDBTEST_TNS_AT_VSI08DEVPOM CDBTEST SYS
    PDB003_TNS_AT_VSI08DEVPOM PDB003_CDBTEST SYS
    And there is still no way to create a pluggable database to a remote target destination from a local source. You can see on the "SQL Language Reference" which CREATE PLUGGABLE DATABASE syntax is allowed:
    SQL@CDBTEST> create pluggable database PDB103@CDB001_AT_VSI08DEVPOM from PDB003;
    create pluggable database PDB103@CDB001_AT_VSI08DEVPOM from PDB003;
    *
    ERROR at line 1:
    ORA-00922: missing or invalid option
    Even tracing the unix Oracle server process with the strace system util I was not able to get useful information to know how successfully complete the statement and why its failing.

    The end of the story: after I have contacted My Oracle Support the Oracle engineer confirmed the issue, tracked as bug 15931910 and it is still being worked upon by the development team.
    Other platforms could be affected by this bug but I have no reason and time to test it.

    So at the moment there is no way to clone a remote pluggable database using a database link, but as a workaround you can follow this post to manually create it to the new target destination

    The Notes UI and Sending a Link to a File Part 2

    The Notes UI and Sending a Link to a File Part 2

    Thanks to everyone who responded yesterday. Ive considered and tested the responses to find the method which will be simplest for our users.

    What follows is a set of instructions....

    We start our instructions by identifying the file we want to link to. Often for me, this will be a MPEG, AVI or giant PDF (because why else would you link rather than attach?) but in this example, Im just using a MS Word Document.

    You can see my path here is:

    M:DeptIT2010DevelopmentExtraNetConcepts

    and my file name is

    Proposed Extranet Login Systems.doc

    Thus; my entire path and filename would be;

    M:DeptIT2010DevelopmentExtraNetConceptsProposed Extranet Login Systems.doc

    Already by working the actual filespec out were stepping slightly beyond the boundaries of the typical user.

    Next, we type our email and highlight the words we want to link to a file;

    Then we click the new "LINK" icon in Notes 8.5

    This gives us a nice little box in which to type our URL. If this was a web link, it would be easy. Of course, being a file link, its a different story.

    You might think that at this point, you could simply paste a link to;

    M:DeptIT2010DevelopmentExtraNetConceptsProposed Extranet Login Systems.doc

    but youd be wrong. Notes will throw this out to the operating system as a URL. If your browser accepts all kinds of different URLs, (like Google Chrome does - and I presume future browsers will) then it wont know what protocol to use.

    Just pasting the path in caused a lot of problems for me.

    So... this is what you need to do to modify your URL.
    1. Prefix it with file://
    2. Change all backslashes to forward slashes (actually this should happen automatically).
    Your new URL should look like this;

    file://M:/Dept/IT/2010/Development/ExtraNet/Concepts/Proposed Extranet Login Systems.doc

    Paste your new URL in and send your email. It should all work. Well, mostly work... If your users have firefox, you might discover that it actually blocks local links for security reasons unless you use these workarounds.

    Im not sure whether to provide these instructions for my users or not. In my opinion, its still too difficult for them. I guess it wouldnt be too hard to create a button which did it - or even better, if IBM were to adjust the links button in future versions of Notes to allow browsing and selecting files on local resources.

    The fastest way to get points on addmefast for Facebook likes increasing

    The fastest way to get points on addmefast for Facebook likes increasing

    In previous  post we talked about How to increase Facebook likes. In that post i give you some websites, which is specially for that. All you do is get points, you like other pages on Facebook or on other social networks follow, add on circles etc. and with that points share your page, account of social network, or post and get likes, retweet, follow. But is not easy to get points, that process need very long time and really annoying and you get tired. Now in this post i show you how to quickly get points and you dont do any work, automatically points come.

    1. First of all go to this website and register your account.
    2. We need to do this trick with Firefox browser.
    3. Now install  this addon on your Firefox browser.
    4. After that download this script file.
    5. Now at start search for iMacros, and you can see folder with that name, open that and now open Macros folder and after that Demo-Firefox and move that script file to that folder you download in step 4.
    6. Open Firefox, log in into that account you create in step 1, and log in into your Facebook account, or create a new Facebook account. And set Facebook account language to English! After that at right side of Firefox at top you can see that addon icon you download in step 4, click on that.

    7. As you can see at left side opened new window merged with Firefox. Choose AddMeFastFBNew.js file from list and press on Play button.

    8. And after seconds in pop out window type 9999999 and press on OK button.

    Now all you need is dont close Firefox browser and dont minimize, but you can work with computer, but dont touch Firefox, no Minimize!
    Now you automatically get points.
