To start things off tonight, here�s a link to our podcast discussing E3. The full crew covers the show, the press conferences, and the games that caught our eye.
I couldn�t be happier.

So, lets talk about some games.
Witcher 3: This is going to be my last Witcher update for a while, I promise. I got back into it hoping I could push through until the end, and although I still really like the game, I just cant play it right now.
I totally overdosed on the sidequests and I gotta put it down for a good, long while to recover. I still want to finish it, but I have clearly proven to myself that it is possible to have too much of a good thing.
Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris: I picked this one up on sale a while ago because I really enjoyed the first (Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light) and Im definitely all about the co-op these days. Although it�s not as good as the first, it�s a pretty similar thing � basically an isometric action/puzzle game, totally playable by one person but greatly enhanced by the addition of partners. This time, up to four friends can adventure together.
The biggest gripe I have is that the screen feels too zoomed-out. Lara and her pals look like miniature versions of themselves, and it�s hard to discern depth in some areas. Some of the boss fights feel a bit cheap, too.
I don�t want to sound too negative, though� Many of the puzzles are pretty neat, and the co-op dynamics are still good. Lara can throw a grappling hook to some of her teammates to let them wire-walk across gaps, teammates can boost or pull each other up to higher areas, and a whole bunch of other little things pop up like that. There�s always something requiring a second person�s input, in a good way.
Ive been grooving on it overall and I would have happily sprung for the DLC, but its only sold as a season pass for about $30, which is three times more than what I paid for the base game. Squeenix�s pricing structure here is completely out of whack, and while Im happy to complete the game, Im going to pass on the extras.
[Embargo Game]: I got a pre-release code for this one on Vita (its also on PS3) and Ive been putting a lot of time into it. I can�t type up a formal preview at the moment, but I think giving some general impressions is probably fine�
Basically, you control a team of psychics, each with their own different kind of power. Pyrokinesis, flight, precognition, and so on. It plays out like an SRPG similar to XCOM and the like, although it�s not based on grid movement; characters can travel anywhere. However, the biggest twist here or is that this game takes quite a bit of direction from Danganronpain that there�s a traitor(s) within the group, so its up to the player to figure out who it is.
Im going to stop talking about it now, but I will say that while the inspirations are clear to see, it definitely takes the material in a fresh direction. I�ll also say that at this point, it seems like a real winner.
Undead Darlings: Im not a big fan of Kickstarters and I dont usually back them, although there have been a few exceptions here and there. That said, one was just announced today that I think will be of interest to a great many of you who read this blog.
Coming from people who used to work at NIS, its a dungeon crawler/visual novel and oozing with anime cuteness. These guys know their audience and Im interested to see what they do with this. If this kind of content is up your alley, go check out their page and see what you think.

�And now a bit of movie talk to round things out. The wife and I just watched Kingsman: The Secret Service the other day, and it kinda blew my socks off. I didnt have a lot of interest when it came out because the trailers made it look like a kids� film, but we rented it on a lark, and I have to say, it was a total surprise -- its basically the best James Bond movie thats ever been made.
In a nutshell, a lower-class British kid gets drafted into a super-secret spy agency and goes through the insane training just in time to help stop an evil mastermind from carrying out his nefarious plan. Simple and straightforward, but well-done.
Samuel L Jackson absolutely shines as the Apple/Google-like quasi-CEO bad guy, his henchwoman (Sofia Boutella) is awesomely deadly, there are loads of cool gadgets and the action sequences are amazing. Although its quite graphic (unexpectedly so!) the fights are full of "oh my God" moments that thrill.
If you�re like me and dig spy films but have been unimpressed with the recent Bond flicks, this is the perfect remedy. Kingsmantakes everything thats cool about spies, jacks it up to 11, and freshens everything from top to bottom. Total thumbs up.

I can admire and respect the work put in to even the very worst of them to some degree (even the god awful Titanic cartoon get some kudos for actually existing). What is rarer still is that one during the time of pixels, a hand-drawn feature is released that is so well done that it can topple all others and become one of my favorites in the medium. In 2010 Cartoon Saloon's The Secret of Kells did just that.

This weekend busy leveling Cabal online. From level 41 push to 52. Now Im able to enter the new map already - Port Lux. Luckily start from beginning my friend told me some basic guide to play this online game.
Ok the trick is like this when you play Cabal online usually you will open full screen but in order to make this trick work you must change to windows mode. Yeah this is the trick that I want to mention here. After you change to windows mode, this trick enable you to autocast magic skill on the monster that you selected. Just select the monster that you want to kill and hold on to the skill shortcut key meanwhile move your mouse cursor to your desktop (out of the game windows) and click on your desktop. So when you click back to the Cabal online windows, you are able to always autocast that particular skill on the monster that you click on it.
Please take note that once you use other skill, then you need to start all over again the steps I mentioned just now. This trick is actually to make it convenient for you to up your magic skill level which choosing the fastest cool down time magic and keep on spam it on monster. In fact remember to up your magic skill to level 9 in order to reduce the cool down time to the shortest.
Just some basic tips for those who are new to Cabal Online like me :) Thanks to my friend Bosanova who provided me this guideline. Hope it helps!

The secret of ultra fast Linux reinstalls
Ive been a linux user since 1999 both at home and work. (Yes, I do use Windows sometimes, but only for testing purposes and gaming.) Since the beginning I installed various linux distributions countless times. I dont like distribuition upgrades as I always want to see the latest edition in all its glory via a clean install, but I also need some of my old settings and usually need to be able to use the computer fully in less than 60 minutes.
There is a very simple trick to achieve this: Use a seperate /home partition.
My hard disk is set up like this usually:
- root partition ( / ) 16GB
- swap partition ( swap ) 2GB
- home partition ( /home ) All the rest
When I need to reinstall (Ubuntu 12.10 is coming soon), first I log out, then press ctrl + f1 to enter the terminal and rename my home direcory adding -old at the end. (/home/tenchi => /home/tenchi-old)
I press ctrl + alt + delete to restart the machine with the boot media and start the install process. After choosing custom partitioning, I resuse my existing partitions taking care not to format my home partition. When the installer asks for a username, I can choose my usual as I renamed the old home directory.
After the installer finishes and the machine rebooted, I am welcomed by a totally clean install. I start the usual updates and during waiting I move the documents and settings I want to keep from the old home directory to the new one.
Settings are usually in seperate hidden directories starting with a dot like .skype, .mozilla. Some are harder to find and you have to dig a bit deeper into .config or .kde. Moving the config directories to your new home directory will make your favorite programs retain your settings.
It is also a good idea to start even before the install with making a list of all the software you use daily. If they are in the default repositories, you can use the software manager or synaptic to install them all at once. Just dont forget to restore their settings before you launch them for the first time.
